Bindery Operator

Job Type: Full Time

Description:

As a member of the Oak Facility Bindery, the Bindery Operator is responsible for the set-up, operation of and preventative maintenance of a variety of bindery equipment to meet or exceed customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Follow direction from supervisor/manager for daily work assignment
  • Perform accurate set-up and efficient operation of bindery machines such as cutters, folders, collators, stitchers, binders, tapers, and shrink-wrappers in accordance with the instructions from the job ticket
  • Effectively direct helpers when applicable
  • Monitor and validate quality throughout jobs, targeting to complete jobs within estimated times
  • Seek opportunities for continuous improvement including workflow both upstream and downstream such as, but not limited to, improving run speed, documenting setup details for repeat jobs, packing in-line, counting, cross-stacking, etc.
  • Accurately data collect time and material used on jobs
  • Keep supervisor/manager informed of potential issues, shortages, equipment problems as soon as they are recognized
  • Maintain records for and perform maintenance on equipment such as lubrication and replacement of warn parts
  • Keep work area clean, organized and supplies well stocked.  Notify supervisor/manager of low supplies
  • Assist in other areas as needed

Qualifications:

To successfully perform this job an individual must be able to fulfill each role and perform each responsibility listed above.  The following qualifications are representative of the education and training, experience, knowledge, and skills required.

Education and Training Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED along with equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities

Experience

  • Knowledge of sheet fed offset bindery and finishing operations with strong grasp of pre-press and post press cutting techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and Pace software.

Requirements

  • Able to maintain a high level of physical activity and standing for prolonged periods
  • Must be able to consistently lift 35 lbs.
  • Must possess basic math skills to be able to accurately add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers and fractions.
  • Possess mechanical skills and ability to use and apply measurement tools such as rulers and scales

Material Handler

Job Type: Full Time

Description:

As a member of the Gilson Post-Production team, the Material Handler is responsible for storing, removing and staging of materials to reduce stoppages in production, thus increasing output and lowering costs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage incoming job specific materials ensuring correct item, count is accurate, product is properly labeled, and staged for production

  • Manage incoming production inventory materials ensuring product is properly labeled, put away, and location recorded in the system. Move to production as needed. Collaborate with procurement to efficiently manage inventory levels for Large Format and/or Packaging inventory

  • Return unused inventory materials to inventory location, making certain correct item and inventory count is accurate in the system

  • Prepare finished product for shipment ensuring protection from damage

  • Load and unload trailers and delivery vehicles

  • Perform physical counts including updating the system

  • Maintain material-handling equipment by completing pre-use inspections, charging, and routine maintenance

  • Assist Logistics Manager as needed

  • Assist Shipping and Receiving as needed

  • Assist with cleaning as directed

  • Assist with deliveries and pickups if needed

Education and Training:

  • High school education or GED equivalent preferred
  • Strong basic math skills

Experience:

  • Prior material handling experience preferred
  • Forklift operation certified
  • Bander and pallet wrapper operation
  • Proficient with email
